
How To Apply:
Send an example of work, published or otherwise, to hummingbirdhousesantafe@gmail.com. Other creatives can send an example of equivalent work. Please include a short letter indicating what you’re looking for from a retreat at Hummingbird House – just to start the conversation – along with a potential time frame, if you have one in mind. Please also include two letters of reference, at least one from a professional creative. Don’t freak out over this, though. They don’t need to be long or comprehensive, just people who can vouch for you and your creative direction.
Pricing
Lodging is $200/night, with a minimum two-night stay, or $1,000/week for a seven-night stay or longer. Stays of in-between duration can be prorated. Guests provide their own food and transportation.
Hummingbird house provides most standard supplies including:
Linens
Dishes, glassware, flatware, basic pots and pans
Dish and dishwasher soap
Wifi
Parking
TV/Cable (smart TV)
Toilet Paper
2 bath towels, hand towels, wash cloth, and bath mat
Two pillows
Fire extinguisher
Bowls for pet food and water
Cleaning supplies including handheld vacuum cleaner and whisk broom
Nespresso machine, milk frother, instant boil teapot, coffee and tea
First aid kit
In addition, there are two local (five-minutes away) veterinarians, plus an emergency vet and urgent care center for humans fifteen-minutes away.
Hummingbird House is not designed to accommodate children, but please inquire if this is a critical consideration. Also inquire about any other needs or provisions not mentioned here.
Personalized mentoring with Jeffe can be arranged for an additional cost. Guests can choose to be left entirely alone with their creative thoughts or they can arrange for regular sessions with Jeffe, up to twice daily. A typical fee-schedule is included below, but please email hummingbirdhousesantafe@gmail.com with the subject line MENTORING to discuss. Jeffe can provide guidance on many topics, including optimizing productivity, brainstorming ideas, giving feedback on work, and navigating the business end of the publishing industry.
General pep talk and accountability: $50/hour
More intensive discussion of goals, industry, brainstorming: $100/hour
Feedback on work, brainstorming, feedback on query letters, etc.: $150/hour
We offer discounts for marginalized writers. All costs will be settled before arrival. PayPal is preferred, but other payment options can be discussed, including by installment. We aim to be flexible and want this to be a joyful experience for you.
